NAF Future Ready Scholars at University of Michigan
NAF Future Ready Scholars at the University of Michigan is a multi-year, STEM-focused career and college readiness program offered to NAF Academy & MEZ students within Southeast Michigan. Participating students spend two weeks in immersive summer camp, engaging in the Engineering Design Process to solve problems that matter to them. With guidance from MEZ instructors and U-M engineering students, scholars have the opportunity to learn about various technology tools (such as robotics, computer programming, 3D printing, and website design) and use them in collaborative teams to invent and prototype brighter, healthier, and more just futures. Additionally, students participate in college and career readiness sessions that help put them on a path toward post-secondary success through SAT prep, career exploration, and job shadowing opportunities. Programming continues during the school year through monthly Saturday Sessions, providing local and ongoing opportunities for career awareness, exploration, and preparation throughout their high school years.
Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19, 42 NAF Academy 10th-grade scholars completed our inaugural summer camp in 2020, each earning a $250 stipend. Thanks to the continued support of NAF founders Sandy and Joan Weill, the application process for our 2021 cohort will launch in February.
Program Dates: July 12-24, 2021
